pancreatic cancer Prior to that he had been Minister of State with responsibility for Children at the Department of Health and Children, the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, and the Department of Education and Science.He was first elected to the Dáil in April 1996 in the by-election caused by the death of his father.During the 28th Dáil Brian Lenihan was Chairperson of the All-Party Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution which considered changes in the abortion laws.His aunt is former Minister Mary O’Rourke.Warm tributes are being paid to Former Finance Minister Brian Lenihan who died early this morning.The 52-year-old father of two had been battling pancreatic cancer and passed away at his family home.He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2009.Hear tributes to Brian Lenihan here He served as Finance Minister up until February of this year.
