Sidney riceWith the likely departure of Santana Moss, the Washington Redskins will enter the 2011 NFL season with plenty of questions at the wide receiver position. Anthony Armstrong may have propelled himself into the role of capable contributor last year, and draftee Leonard Hankerson may have potential, but the Redskins lack consistency and starpower at wide receiver. They'll likely try to find some of each in free agency, and Sidney Rice of the Minnesota Vikings is one of the top unrestricted free agents available.
Pros: Rice is the rare package of a receiver with both size (he's 6'-4") and speed. He's just one year removed from a Pro Bowl season where he led his team in receiving (1,312 yards) and receiving touchdowns (eight). Cons: Rice's 2009 season was prolific, but it was just one season, and it was when Brett Favre was in competition for the MVP Award. All three of his other professional seasons, Rice has caught fewer than 400 yards, and no more than four touchdowns. Limited to just six games after coming back from a hip injury, Rice had only 17 receptions for 296 yards and two scores in 2010. Verdict: It seems likely that free agent Santonio Holmes will be the Redskins' top target for the wide receiver position, as they will be in competition with the New York Jets to sign the former Super Bowl MVP, but Rice would be a very nice backup plan. Other free agent wide receivers: Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, Brad Smith, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Malcom Floyd, Mike Sims-Walker For more on NFL free agency, visit our StoryStream listing key 2011 NFL free agents the Redskins could target.
