Murdoch scandalThe Murdochs and Brooks are scheduled to begin testifying before the committee around 9:15 a.m. ET.Update at 8:10 a.m. ET: Regarding an initial police investigation that found that the tabloid's phone-hacking was the work of only rogue individuals, Stephenson says: "There was absolutely no reason to think the original investigation wasn't a success."Update at 7:54 a.m. ET: Stephenson says he regrets that Scotland Yard hired Neil Wallis, former executive editor of News of the World, as a PR consultant for Scotland Yard. Asked they he had some many meetings and dinners with officials of News International, the British arm of the media empire, Stephenson replied: "It was not my decision to allow News International to be sort of dominant in the market. But if I am going to talk to the media and they have 42% of the readership in this country, then who am I going to talk to?"Update at 7:10 a.m. ET: Stephenson has denied any involvement in the phone hacking scandal, but says he decided to resign because he did not want to become a distraction for the police department in the run up to the London Olympics.Update at 7:08 a.m. ET: Sir Paul Stephenson, who resigned as head of Scotland Yard over the scandal, is questioned by the Home Affairs committee as to why he stepped down.
