
n this new railway e ticketing system, which was announced in the Railway budget, users need to register to avail of the services. There will be no charge for registration. Initially 8 transactions per user will be allowed. Tickets through this portal would be cheaper by Rs 10 for AC classes and Rs. 5 for others, which is less when compared to the service charge levied by the IRCTC reservation portal, i.e. Rs. 20 for AC and Rs. 10 for others.
Earlier the Railways had barred travel agents from booking tatkal tickets during peak hours in IRCTC portal in view of public interest.The new service will be available on its web portal www.indianrailways.gov.in . The site will be launched once it gets necessary clearance for payement gateway transactions. Meanwhile the IRCTC site can be accessed through the new site.
This new web portal will counter the problem of misuse by travel agents as it allows only individual users to reserve tickets besides reducing the traffic from IRCTC site. But it remains to be seen as to how this move will be fruitful as many in the suburbs- who arenot tech savvy-, as well as a major chunk of travellers still depend on the travel agents for booking ticke
