ACPCCivil and mechanical engineering courses seem to be much in demand among students these days. This has been aptly reflected in the recent admissions to the bachelor of engineering courses. The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) officials said as the students have given their preferences for admission to engineering courses, it was clear that mechanical was their first choice this time. "Last year, the course that was most sought after by the students was electronics and communications," said an ACPC official. Civil engineering, which was not very popular last year, has become the third most favourite choice among the students this year. Mechanical engineering topped the chart of favourite courses followed by electronics and communications and civil engineering. ACPC stated that civil engineering has been preferred over computer, information technology and even electrical engineering.
The reason the officials ascribe is the boom in the real estate market and the need for more civil engineers for the construction industry. The five-day process for the students to give preferences began from July 11. For the 44,219 Bachelor of Engineering (BE) seats and 5,341 Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) seats, about 53,578 students have registered themselves. However, of these, only 50,000 students have given their preferences yet. Each student can give a maximum of 700 preferences for admission into different colleges. ACPC will declare the final admission list on Tuesday. The students will be given seven-day time to deposit their fees at their respective colleges.
