abhay gandhiScamster Abhay Gandhi used every ruse in the book to lure people to hand over their cash to him. He put up a chart in his house at Vasna in which he listed his avaricious fantasies: to make Deepika Padukone his lawfully wedded wife by July 5, 2011 and buy Amitabh Bachchan’s home ‘Jalsa’ in Mumbai by September 5, 2014, among other things! In addition, he also wanted to possess a dream house — a sprawling bungalow - of his own. He was eyeing Rs10,000 crore by September 5, 2030 and hoped to build a bank balance of a whopping $25,000 crore by 2040 eventually! These ambitions of Gandhi were revealed by Mayur Chavda,
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) at a press conference today.Strange as it may sound, tracing Abhay Gandhi’s life story reveals the psychology of an ambitious ‘salesman’ trying to sell his dreams.A day after the first FIR was lodged against Gandhi on Wednesday police officials were stunned to learn how he lured so many people and formed a large network with the hundred of crores of rupees invested by his victims.Police say that Gandhi worked very hard to sell his schemes. Investors even took money on debt from their relatives (one of them went as far as Hubli in Karnataka) to invest in his schemes. Police officials believe that finally it was greed that did Gandhi in."He promised to double and triple the money in just a couple of months," the officials said.Chavda further said that the investor who filed an FIR against him had deposited Rs5,00,000 while around Rs20 lakh was further invested by his relatives which included his brother, sister and cousins."Covetousness did him in. Various other revelations will come up.
But, as of now, it seems Gandhi played with the minds of people who went for easy money."Police officials also revealed that Gandhi used to organise monthly meetings which would be attended by investors and agents. Such meetings used to be held in a grand manner and each candidate had to contribute Rs2,700 to attend them. Gandhi impressed people with his luxurious life style. People also trusted him because of the clout he wielded.Another top cop said, "Gandhi lived, or pretended to live, a luxurious life style to impress people. He probably knew that only a flamboyant way of living could win and attract people to deposit their money in his schemes and he succeeded so well! The BMW and Accord cars he possessed were all part of this plan."
